Hello America

Hello America!   Please, can you help us out here?

America has the largest English speaking population in the world.

America has some of the largest Christian churches in the English speaking world.

Christian House Sitters has been prominently featured in articles in numerous American Christian magazines.

But

We still have fewer members in America than in Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Spain, South Africa and many other countries.

Please, can you help spread the word in the USA?

Remember this is not a business but a ministry.

Becoming a registered house owner is free.

Having someone look after your home and pets is free.

Registering as a house sitter so you can enjoy rent-free vacations all over the world costs just £25 for a year (all of which goes to help vulnerable children at Home of Peace Children’s Home.

We need a few Christians to catch the vision, tell their churches, friends and family and the result will be that we are able to serve everyone so much better.

Do your family a favour

I was saddened to read a newspaper article that a friend sent to me. It is from The Independent 22nd June 2015.

Yes, I know it is 2 years old but I suspect that nothing much has changed since then.

Here is an extract from the article.

A simple break can help build families’ relationships with each other and improve children’s learning and behaviour in school

Holidays matter. They are our lifeline to sanity, a chance to step away from everyday life and reconnect with the people we love; a time to relax, to be the real us, or indeed to be whoever we want to be.

And once the sand has been washed from the toes, holidays can leave us with a suitcase of life-long happy memories.

Yet today in the UK at least 1.46 million families can’t afford a single day out together, let alone a holiday night away from home. In one of the richest countries in the world, nearly five million people haven’t even one day’s outing to look forward to.

Millions of British children this year won’t get to paddle in the sea, build a sandcastle or lick an ice-cream on a prom.

Nothing to report when they return to school in September.

No happy memories to sustain them through grim times.

So sad.
So damaging to family life.
So unnecessary.

Through Christian House Sitters you can enjoy a great holiday rent-free staying in a house, not a tiny hotel room. All you will need to pay for is your meals and if you want to you can prepare yourself if you want to so they will not cost more than they would at home.

If you are worried about leaving your own home unoccupied or if you have pets then we can even arrange for someone to look after your home and pets free of charge.

Do your family need some time away?

Would you like rent-free accommodation?

Would you like someone to look after your home and pets while you are away? Free of charge.

Do your family a favour. Have a look at our website. http://www.christian-housesitters.com

Don’t be jealous. You too could experience this.

As I looked out of the bedroom window this morning I looked at the lovely garden. The picture only shows about a third of the garden. It is almost like having a private park. What a blessing.

Just looking at it helped me to unwind.

No, it is not my garden. We are house sitting while the home owners are away on a vacation.

Out of interest, I looked online a few minutes ago and a house like this, in this area and at this time would normally be rented out for around £180 ($230) per night. We will be here for 20 nights so if we were renting it would have cost us about  £3,600  ($4,660).

So how much are we paying?  Nothing at all!!!

What do we get for that? A 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house with someone who comes once a week to look after the grounds and a team of cleaners who also come once a week.

What do we need to do in return for staying here? Put out food in the bird feeders for the wild birds, water a few indoor plants and keep the house safe by keeping it occupied.

Now, in all honesty, not all houses made available through Christian House Sitters are to this standard. Most don’t have a team of cleaners or a gardener. Many will expect you to look after pets BUT in return, you get to live in a house not a stuffy, noisy, impersonal hotel room and you get it rent – free.

We have houses available all over the world.

So how can you enjoy somewhere like this? Simply register as a house sitter. It only costs £25 per year (all of which goes to support vulnerable children in a Children’s Home in Kenya) That is your only expense apart from your food and transport.

Ahh, but what if you are the home owner needing someone to look after your home and possibly your pets. Great! Register with us free of charge and we will try to find you a suitable sitter.

All the details about being a house sitter and getting a sitter for your home are on our website.

So in summary:

Christian House Sitters offers rent-free vacation accommodation to our members all over the world and if you need someone to look after your home and pets while you are away we can help there as well by finding someone suitable who will do it free of charge.

The Science Behind Vacations

Cat going on vacationI read some strange things. Today I was looking at an old copy of the International Business Times and saw an article that they published back in 2011.

It is important so I am reproducing the main body of the article below. Full details can be found at ibtimes.com/science-behind-vacations-why-we-need-break-299133

The Science Behind Vacations: Why We Need a Break

Let’s face it, you hate that person who comes back into the office after a vacation with a sunny smile and a deep tan. They feel rejuvenated, refreshed, reborn, but you just wish they would return to their cubicle and be quiet. But, before you go resenting them and their new lease on life, they may be onto something.

Research has discovered what we knew all along- we NEED a vacation.

More and more experts are urging workers to take full advantage of their vacation days to go someplace new, lie on a beach, read a book and do absolutely nothing- and not feel bad about it! Turns out, there’s some reasoning behind rediscovering the pleasure of napping in a hammock, swimming in the ocean and walking through the woods. These breaks from our everyday life have shown to be profoundly healing to our physiological and physical selves.

Vacations, whatever form they take, are a chance to unwind, regroup and take a step back to examine your life from a new place with a new perspective. Travelling, especially abroad or to a place we have never been before, allows us to temporarily leave our old life behind and adopt new customs, new ways of thinking and looking at the world that can cross over into our everyday lives.

Many people need the time and space away from what they experience every day in order to recognise harmful or self-destructive patterns in their life. Taking time to get away and visit a new place can highlight distinct lifestyle choices; when you are able to directly compare your life choices with others, you can come to a better understanding of your beliefs, practices and actions. By adding this perspective, you can see what you do like, and what, perhaps, you should change.

Another benefit to vacations is forcing you out of the daily rut that you have likely gotten into. Going to a new place can wake you up and shake up your sights, smells, tastes, and feelings. Experiencing all these new senses can help you to better appreciate the surroundings in your day to day life. Vacations can also help prevent burnout at home; by regularly taking the time to relax, you can prevent that overworked, under-rested feeling you know too well.

And what better way to experience these new senses than to simply let them wash over you as you sit back, relax and do absolutely nothing. When you do go on a vacation, take a break. Being idle is good for the mind, body and spirit. It is restorative, rejuvenating and, much like taking a long sleep, invigorates you to return to your life fully charged. A good vacation can help us to reconnect with ourselves, operating as a vehicle for self-discovery and helping us get back to feeling our best. This means no blackberries, no Internet and no working! You can’t take a break from work if you bring it with you.

Aside from your psychological well-being, your physical state can benefit from a few days off as well.

Research has uncovered a link between stress at work and overall well-being – and it’s not pretty! Trouble at work can lead to headaches, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, and can even cause a stroke.What is my job?

The best way to combat these symptoms is to slow down the pace and take some time away from work. Vacations can help keep us healthy by lowering our stress levels that can lead to other problems. The effects of a good get-away can last for weeks, as some research has found that after just three days of vacation, subjects had less physical complaints, slept better and were in an overall better mood than before the vacation. These effects were still present up to five weeks later!

BUT THE COST!!!

Don’t worry.

We can help.

Christian House Sitters offers rent-free vacation accommodation to our members all over the world and if you need someone to look after your home and pets while you are away we can help there as well by finding someone suitable who will do it free of charge.

Fake News and a good laugh

Everywhere I go people are talking about FAKE NEWS.

They make it sound like a new phenomenon but I was reminded of a post I put up on this blog way back 6 years ago and I thought it was worth repeating.

Here it is. It was titled

The Biker, The Hungry Lion and Housesitting

LionAs I was reading a report on housesitting in the Guardian I was reminded of this old but still funny story:

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into  the lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket  and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says  Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.

Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.

Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s papers will have this on the first page. What motorcycle do you ride?

A Harley Davidson.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the first page:

BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

Fake News
As I said I was reading an article in The Guardian that reminded me of that story. The headline says Find a housesitter – for free.

And the article goes on to talk at length about a company who offer to find you a suitable sitter. But in my opinion the headline is very misleading!  (Or to use today’s language it is FAKE NEWS.)

Yes registration is indeed free BUT the article continues by saying that once a suitable sitter is found you will have to pay the agency for their services. This is not free and I find the cost expensive. According to the article  someone with two pets could pay £772.80 (approx $1500)  for a two-week stint

I believe that we offer a far better solution.

And our service is available worldwide.

With Christian House Sitters registration as a Home Owner needing a sitter is FREE

Once you have a suitable sitter they will come and look after your home and pets and this is once again FREE

Why pay £772 (approx $1000) for 2 weeks when we offer a Free alternative?

But what about security? All our sitters are members of a recognised Christian church, supply the details of their church leader/minister/ pastor and they will provide the owner with references from a church leader and at least one other person.

If you are thinking of a vacation and want someone to look after your home please visit our website and register as an owner.

Register as soon as you know your vacation dates, don’t leave it to the last-minute, as that way you will have a much better range of sitters to choose from.

The long spoon………

I am blessed to receive numerous uplifting, encouraging and challenging email most days. One that often helps me is from a man called Pastor Tim Burt who writes a blog called Fresh Manna. You can see it at https://todaysfreshmanna.wordpress.com/

This morning I received the following from him. (Note he has previously granted me permission to reproduce his posts as long as I link back to his blog and acknowledge him as the source.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Spoon That Feeds… (Author Unknown)
Long spoon
A man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, “Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.”
The Lord led the man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the man’s mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.
The Lord said, “You have seen Hell.”
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the man’s mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.
The man said, “I don’t understand.”
“It is simple” said the Lord, “it requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. While the greedy think only of themselves.”
Galations 5:13
Gal 5:13 “For you have been called to live in freedom–not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This in many ways is the philosophy behind Christian House Sitters.
Christians blessing each other and being blessed at the same time.

Those who are going on vacation get the blessing of having someone look after their home and pets free of charge

Those wanting a vacation get a rent-free house to live in.

Both parties are also blessed by knowing that they are helping another Christian.
