Avoid the danger.

I was reading MSN Travel News yesterday and I was shocked by one of the articles.

The headline says
Brits are still flocking to terror hotpots for cheap deals despite Foreign Office advice not to.

The article continues:

Thousands of Brits are still heading to terror hotspot Tunisia to grab hotel deals at just £17 a night.
Leading websites are offering stays near the Sousse spot where 30 Britons were massacred by an Islamic State extremist in 2015.
Foreign Office advice is not to travel to the North African country amid fears jihadists could again target foreign visitors …………………. The Association of British Travel Agents says members should inform clients of advice from the Foreign Office.

Why?Danger Sign

Because prices have been greatly reduced in order to attract people to a place that they may otherwise not even consider because of the security implications.

The article quotes accommodation from as low as £17 per person per night.

I agree it is a low price. But even at that low price a 10 day break for a couple will still cost £340 for the accommodation in a place where the Foreign Office says you should not go because it is far too dangerous.

But people are short of money, need a break and so are willing to risk their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Don’t do it.

Through Christian House Sitters you can enjoy a rent-free break in a safe place living in a comfortable house. There are opportunities all over the world.

Better than the best. Keep safe.

I had a few minutes to spare so decided to Google “leaving house empty while on holiday” and I was astounded at the number of hits. As you can see it turned up 85 million articles so I feel sure this is an important topic.

Google screen shot

I naturally did not read them all.

I looked through a selection from the first page of Google hits and found a common theme.

The Good Housekeeping website nicely surmised the problem:

Over 80% of burglaries occur when a house is empty, so try to make your house look occupied when you’re out and when you’re away on holiday.

I knew the amount of burglaries was high but over 80% surprised even me.

burglar

I then looked at the statistics

UK Statistics
In the UK The Office for National Statistics figures on recorded crime show that there were 392,341 burglaries in 2014-15, while Home Office data shows only 54,466 arrests were made for burglary.

Remember 80% take place while homes are unoccupied. If a house is burgled looking at the official statistics there is a 1 in 14 chance the person will even be arrested.

So the chance of recovering your lost property is very low indeed.

USA Statistics
Here it is even worse according to the FBI there were an estimated 8,277,829 property crimes reported by law enforcement. Financial losses suffered by victims of these crimes were calculated at approximately $14.3 billion.

Just looking at those figures is enough to give anyone pause for thought.

The various sites then suggest all the normal things such as arranging for your mail to be diverted, putting your lights on a time switch, not telling people on social media that you are away, etc.safe-home1

But the best advice came from Home & Garden who said.
The best way to make sure your house is safe while you’re gone is to have someone you trust still living in it. You may be lucky enough to have a tidy and conscientious relative who’ll move in temporarily and water the plants, feed the pets and pick up the newspapers. If not, there are services you can use for house-sitting and pet-sitting while you’re away. This can be a pricey option, but it’s a solution that touches all the bases.

But we can offer you something even better!

Our service to Home Owners all over the world is FREE. Note Home and Garden said this is the pricey option but still the best.

Well we have removed the cost. You pay nothing to register, you pay nothing for a sitter. It is free!

Your risk of burglary drops by 80%
Your pets are looked after in their own home environment.
Your pot plants are watered.
And you end up blessing another family.

Flooded Room. Almost an indoor pool.

Something happened this morning that made me think back to when we lived in South Africa 36 years ago. We had a lovely house with a swimming pool. Coming home from work on a hot day and diving into the pool was a real treat.

After we moved to England we no longer had a pool. To be honest we also no longer had as many really hot days either.

This morning I woke up and discovered that we now had an indoor swimming pool.

I went through to the utility room where we have our washing machine, boiler, etc. and as I opened the door my feet were flooded.

Flooded Utility Room

The entire room was under at least 2 inches of water.

OK not a swimming pool but enough to make me remember our old pool.

I am not a great handyman but I knew what needed to be done.

Turn off main water supply.

Clear water from the floor.

Turn water back on and identify the leak.

Turn water off again and go and buy a replacement connector for where the water supply connects to the inlet hose on the washing machine.

Fit it and pray!

Leaking PipesIt worked! Took me about 3 or 4 hours but in the end it worked!

No lasting damage done. Thank you God.

Then I got to thinking what if this had happened while we were away from home of a week or longer?

We would have returned to find the entire house flooded, all the carpets needing to be replaced, no doubt some electrical equipment damaged, walls needing to be re-painted and so on.

In other words it would have cost thousands and been a major inconvenience even if the insurance agreed to cover some of the cost.

We never leave our home unoccupied when we are away.

What about you?

Could your home be flooded, broken into or suffer some other catastrophe while you are away?

By using Christian House Sitters FREE service this need never happen because we can normally arrange for someone suitable, reliable and with references to look after your house and pets free of charge.

This service is available worldwide!

How to Keep Your Home Safe While you are on Vacation

Gun pointed at kittenHow would I ever manage without my friends?

Having so many members of Christian House Sitters scattered all around the world I am blessed to have interesting articles emailed to me from publications I would otherwise never have known existed.

An example is an article from a company called Brown Safe whose website tells me that the company was founded in 1980 and has grown into the premiere safe and vault company providing worldwide security solutions.

Today they published an article entitled

10 Ways to Keep Your Home Safe While Away on Summer Vacation(http://bit.ly/piXxXr)

They begin by pointing out that one of the keys to enjoying a vacation is knowing that your home is safe and secure. It can be very hard to concentrate on having a good time when you are concerned about break-ins and fires back at home.

Number one on the list was …….

1. Get a house sitter: By far, the best way to protect your home is by having a trusted friend or family member who can live in the house while you are away. If you have pets, they can take care of them at the same time. There are also house sitting services that will do this for a fee, but you have to be sure that you trust them.

Excellent advice.

Now can we improve on that advice?

Yes I believe that we can.

Firstly they say that there are house sitting services that will do this for a fee.

True.

But with Christian House Sitters it is FREE. Yes that is right. No catch, no small print and no charge.

Then they say be sure you can trust them.

Again they are correct.

But with Christian House Sitters all our registered sitters are members of a recognised Christian Church and are willing to give you references including one from a leader in their church.

Brown & Co list a further 9 helpful suggestions but if you have a house sitter they are all unnecessary. No need to stop your mail, stop the newspaper delivery, etc.

So why not contact us and let us arrange your FREE membership as a Home Owner and start the ball rolling to get your FREE house sitter lined up for your next vacation

Explaining the basics of House Sitting with CHS

Have you ever noticed that things you think are simple and obvious are sometimes difficult for others to understand?Puzzled Man

I was under the impression that Christian House Sitters was a very simple concept that everyone would immediately understand. I was wrong.

So if anyone is still confused here is a short, simple summary of what we do.

Who can Join? Any Christian who belongs to a recognised Christian Church. People can register as a House Sitters, a Home Owners or as Both.

If you register as an owner we find a  house sitter to move into your home while you are  away on holiday. They look after your home and pets for you and  in return they receive a rent free holiday in your home. So the house owner saves money by not having to pay anyone to look after their home and pets. They have the security of knowing that their home and pets are being looked after by a responsible Christian.

If you register as a sitter you get to travel and stay rent free in lovely homes rather than an expensive and often characterless hotel room.

People ask about safety. Naturally one has to take precautions. We strongly advise all home owners to get two references before entering into any agreement. As this is a Christian site and all members must list their church connection we suggest one of the reference should be obtained from their church leaders. We also include a general outline of an agreement for both parties to sign.

So what actually happens? Well if you register as an owner we list your house details (without the specific address) on the restricted section of our website that can only be viewed by registered sitters. We also email all registered sitters drawing their attention to the listing.

Sitters then decide which houses they are interested in and click an enquiry button. That automatically sends the owners their details and their profile info. Then it is over to the owner to make contact and decide which application they like best, check references and arrange the sit.

What does this all cost? Registration as an owner is free.  Registration as a sitter is only £25 per year. All of which goes to supporting a Christian Children’s Home in Kenya. The cost of running the service is covered by my wife and I as a service.

Were do we have sitters and houses? All over the world.

If you have any questions let me know or have a look at our  website.

God bless you,

Ray

Be safe not sorry.

Thief

Coming back from a lovely holiday only to find that your home has been broken into must be awful.

I was chatting to a friend recently who had this experience many years ago and he said that for about the next 6 years his wife refused to go on a holiday.

An article appeared in the Shropshire Star on Saturday with some excellent advice from their local police force. ( http://bit.ly/ru4ztj )

I will quote just a short section:

If you’re going away – whether overnight or on a longer holiday – you should also ask yourself if your home looks lived in.

Let a neighbour or friend know that you’re going away and arrange for them to check on your house to collect mail, open/close curtains, park on your drive, etc.

Use timer switches to turn lights on during the evenings and also remember to cancel any milk and newspaper deliveries.

Yes indeed that is really good advice as sadly there are people who watch for empty houses. They know the holiday period offers easy pickings and they are more than willing to take advantage of your absence to line their own pockets.

Do remember that there is an even safer way of protecting your home while you are away.

How? By having someone reliable living there. That way the home is not left empty and the burglars will move on to easier options.

Through Christian House Sitters we can help you find someone suitable and remember it will not cost you anything!

The Biker, The Hungry Lion and Housesitting

As I was reading a report on housesitting in the Guardian I was reminded of this old but still funny story:

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into  the lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket  and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says  Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.

Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.

Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s papers will have this on the first page. What motorcycle do you ride?

A Harley Davidson.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the first page:

BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH
As I said I was reading an article in The Guardian that reminded me of that story. The headline says Find a housesitter – for free And the article goes on to talk at length about a company who offer to find you a suitable sitter. But in my opinion the headline is very misleading! Yes registration is indeed free BUT the article continues by saying that once a suitable sitter is found you will have to pay the agency for their services. This is not free and I find the cost expensive. According to the article  someone with two pets could pay £772.80 (approx $1500)  for a two-week stint

I believe that we offer a far better solution. And our service is available worldwide.

With Christian House Sitters registration as a Home Owner needing a sitter is FREE

Once you have a suitable sitter they will come and look after your home and pets and this is once again FREE

Why pay £772 (approx $1500) for 2 weeks when we offer a Free alternative?

But what about security? All our sitters are members of a recognised Christian church, supply the details of their church leader/minister/ pastor and they will provide the owner with references from a church leader and at least one other person.

If you are thinking of a holiday and want someone to look after your home please visit our website and register as an owner.

Register as soon as you know your holiday dates, don’t leave it to the last-minute, as that way you will have a much better range of sitters to choose from.

If you want to be a sitter and to enjoy a rent-free holiday then we can also help.

Have a look at the website for the details and if you have any questions please contact me via the contact page
