Balancing Your Life Effectively

Hi

This is an unusual post. But then on this blog what is normal? We have such a wide variety of topics that we cover.

Today I will not be talking about Christian House Sitters.

Instead I want to tell you about a new book that is available from today.
Book Cover

Many years ago when I was training Christian Counsellors I put together some notes on Christian Commitment. After numerous requests I edited them into a book based around Luke 2:52.

The book was a tremendous blessing to many and we received emails and letters from all over the world.

But that was 10 years ago and things change so by popular demand I have revised, updated and generally improved the original. It has been re-published as Balancing Your Life Effectively. (A Practical Guide to Christian Commitment)

I believe it will be helpful to both new Christians and to everyone who wants God to be in control of all areas of their lives. (Physical, Mental, Social and Spiritual).

It can be used for personal study or for small groups.

It is now (from today) available worldwide through Amazon as a printed book and as a Kindle download.

All profits will go to Home of Peace Children’s Home in Kenya (See www.tlc-childrenstrust.org)

Please make it known to your church, friends and family.

Role Models and Vacations

2 Pastors discuss vacations

I was sent the above a few days ago and it appealed to my rather odd sence of humour.

Sadly it contains more than a grain of truth. I have met many Christians who feel that they need to work 7 days a week and 365 days a year. They have the very best intentions. They want to serve God and do not want to waste time BUT I have to ask myself if, in the long run, they are actually very effective or indeed if they are really living  in God’s will.

God clearly told us that He rested on the 7th day. I have real difficulty in thinking that God was tired. He rested and by doing that showed that we too need to take a day each week to re-charge our batteries.

Psychological and medical research has clearly demonstrated that people who do not take a regular vacation are prone to more illnesses and are less efficient at work.

Relax! Vacations Are Good For Your

Health Take Back Vacation

One reason many people do not take a vacation is the cost. But remember Christian House Sitters can help make a dramatic reduction in the cost of your next vacation. We can help you find rent-free accommodation all over the world and we can arrange, if needed, for reliable Christians to look after your home and your pets while you are away again with no cost to you.

Shocked.

I was surprised this week.

It is not often that the behaviour of people causes me surprise having spent many years working both in Christian Ministry and as a Psychologist I thought I had moved beyond being shocked.

So, I hear you asking, what caused this shock?

It was the level of pride and selfishness shown by the minister of a large church. A man I previously knew only by his reputation as an international speaker.

This man, who will remain unnamed, wrote to Christian House Sitters saying he was interested in house sitting in ____ between ___ and ___ and asking if we have anything available.

I replied that at this moment we do not but I went on to explain that naturally the listing keeps changing as new houses are added and that as the date he wanted is many months away I suggested he prayerfully consider registering as a House Sitter so that he could be informed immediately any new houses are added.

He replied that he did not feel it necessary for him to register and asking me to just keep an eye on all new listings. Then if what he wants became available to reserve it for him, send him the details and he will register.

I replied that it would be unfair to our existing registered members. They joined with the promise that they would be informed about all listings. To reserve it for someone who is not a member and thus deprive the registered members would not be fair to them.

His reply was. Do you know who I am? I am God’s servant and I deserve to be treated as a special case!

I am afraid I replied saying that on further consideration we do not feel that he is the type of person we would welcome as a member. I pointed out that Jesus came as the servant king and no servant is greater than his master.

Sadly his response was an abusive email telling me that I am standing between God and His plans and I will be judged by God for stopping this great man of God from having the vacation he deserved.

All I can say is please join me in praying for God servants. I include myself in that group. Pray that we never forget that we are nothing and God is everything.

I Love Myself

I do not know who produced this picture but it was sent to me and it seems to fit the mind-set of that Pastor

Don’t forget that if you would like someone to look after your home and pets while you are away you can register free of charge as a House Owner. The service of the sitter will not cost you anything!

Also if you fancy a rent-free vacation please register as a Sitter. We have homes available all over the world. And the list keeps changing. Once you are registered we will keep you up to date on available houses and don’t worry we will not be reserving them for someone who has not registered. In fact we never reserve houses the home owner decides who they would like from those that apply.

Annie Bradshaw – THIEF

We are continuing our periodic series of articles on good vacation reading for Christians. Once again we are delighted that an author has agreed to write a brief article about their work especially for our blog.

Annie Bradshaw the author is also, I am delighted to say, one of our registered members of Christian House Sitters.

Asked to describe herself she says: A wild child, ran away to Holland at 15, 3rd in Miss Wales at 20, 1st female DJ at Stringfellows at 22. Fell for Jesus in ’94. Now Screenwriter for the Kingdom

THIEF

BY

ANNIE BRADSHAW

So often in life it seems as though the good things we desire are thwarted by what can sometimes feel like an invisible enemy.

At other times what opposes us is real, maybe in the shape of our parentage, or our circumstances, or maybe just the people we choose to befriend.

For many of us the desire for something ‘better’ can be enough to fuel our determination and thereby change the hand that life has dealt us. But for some it would appear that no matter which way they turn, the ‘demon’ is right there waiting for them.

‘Thief’ isn’t so much an example of human perseverance or endurance, although for sure these attributes are displayed throughout the story. Rather it is a tale about hope surviving against all odds.  A declaration that no matter what life throws at us, there is One who has a purpose and destiny for our lives that cannot be undone.

The human heart is a fragile thing and when broken the pain can be such that what was once so soft can become callous and hard. And yet, each human kindness shown to such a heart can be a preservative that prevents ultimate death. And even if not in the conscious mind of the bearer, it is stored away, to be remembered when faced with another broken heart needing consolation. And so it is that those with the saddest of lives can pour out immeasurable hope to those who have none.

Nabal and Nivcah were two boys from the same village whose options were few. Both born into poverty and oppression, it would seem that their future had been determined with no way out.  And yet even in the direst of situations we have the precious gift of choice. But who has the final say and when do those choices end?

Some of the characters depicted in ’Thief’ prove that it’s never too late to turn things around. But though they both lived their lives as thieves, the ultimate destinies of Nabal and Nivcah were as distant as Heaven is from Hell.

‘Thief’ will take the reader to a distant time and place, but the challenges of the characters in the story are no different than those we face today.

For Nabal and Nivcha the final choice is life, but who will choose it?

‘Thief’ is available on Amazon for download to a Kindle or any device with a Kindle app. You can go direct to the page using this shortened link: http://amzn.to/wVtE1z where you will also find several reviews.

Below is just one reader’s response on American Amazon:

‘Thief ‘stole my heart, February 5, 2012

I am constantly amazed at how a gifted writer with a heart for a story can bring to life a few lines from the scriptures. This story gripped me from the first pages, transporting me to the land of Israel in the days of Jesus. Ms. Bradshaw has clearly done her historical homework. Happily, you don’t feel the sense of dry history as she leads you back to His time through the story of a broken man. I highly commend it to you!  Comment by Janey Barnhart

Praying Hands by Ashley Reece

We are continuing our periodic series of articles by published Christian authors in which they tell us a little about themselves and also suggest some vacation reading for when you are next housesitting with Christian House Sitters.

Today we feature the work of Ashley Reece

Ashley Reece

Ashley Reece was born and raised in Detroit, MI to her parents Pastor William Reece & Angela Reece.  She In December 2010, she founded blessedfyi.com.   Blessedfyi.com is an online Christian magazine for youth.  Ashley attends the Blessed Community Baptist Church in Michigan.  Her father Pastor William C. Reece, Jr. is pastor

Ashley write:

My parents instilled in me at a young the importance of believing and following Christ.  As a preschool teacher, I learned that many children had no idea about praying.  Some also had no idea about Jesus Christ.  That bothered me and I feel that everyone should not only know about Jesus, but also praise and worship his name.  I’m a firm believer that Christ is the only way we are able to wake up and live each day.  He is the only one that makes all things possible in our lives.

Strong Little Praying Hands-Christian Prayer Book for Youth

By: Ashley D. Reece

Strong Little Praying Hands

The Lord had placed on my heart last year to write “Strong Little Praying Hands”.  I’m a strong believer in Christ and if I did not have him I would not be here today.  We all have had trials and tribulations.  I’ve been lied on, mistreated and unemployed.  I woke up some days and had no idea how I was going to make it.  Jesus was all I had and sometimes you have to be at your lowest to get closer to him.  I prayed everyday and every night.  I remained faithful and did not give up.   The Lord answered my prayers and he is still blessing me.  “Strong Little Praying Hands”, is a prayer-book for children.  Prayer allows us to communicate with God, and children should learn the importance of prayer early on in their lives.  This book contains twelve prayers and twelve related bible verses.  While reading this book, children can recite prayers that relate to their everyday life and learn bible verses about praying.  I want the youth to know that they can pray to God about anything.  They should get in the habit of praying daily and not just when they need something in their lives.  We should pray when we’re happy and sad.  We should pray when things are going right in our life and when their going wrong.  I’m a witness that the Lord will continue to bless and protect us if we believe in his word, follow his commands and pray.
