Boost your immune system.

The immune system Your immune system is your bodies defense against illness.

Functiond of Immune System

It is your protection against a host of potentially deadly problems

Today I was looking through the news on the BBC website and saw an article confirming something that I have said in these blogs on a number of occasions.

The BBC quoted research by Professor Fulvio D’Acquisto of the Queen Mary University in London. (you can read the full report at bbc.co.uk/news/health-37498719)

Here is an extract from the article.

The headline really says it all (For American readers holiday as used in this UK research means what you would call a vacation)

Prescribing holidays ‘could help fight infections’
30 September 2016
Sitting on the beach could be good for us and our immune system
Scientists are investigating whether prescribing holidays ……… might boost our immune system and help us to fight off disease.
In tests on mice, they discovered that sprucing up their living space, with a running wheel, toys and a colourful box, did wonders for their T cells.
These cells are essential for immunity and help to protect against disease.

Prof Fulvio D’Acquisto, lead study researcher from The Queen Mary University in London, said: “This effect is remarkable because we haven’t given them any drugs.
“All we’ve done is change their housing conditions.
You could say that we’ve just put them in their equivalent of a holiday resort for two weeks and let them enjoy their new and stimulating surroundings.”  ………….. Prof D’Acquisto says research shows that there is a link between emotional response and immune response.
No-one yet knows how this works but one theory is that heightened emotion makes bone marrow perform better, which in turn receives more nutrients, boosting the body’s immune system……………….

Pets Left At Home Alone

I love animals and always enjoy a good laugh so I was delighted to get a few pictures showing what animals can get up to when they are left alone.

I can’t credit the photographers as I have no idea who took them.

Dog at computer
I would like to say that they were emailed to me by a dog who was complaining that his family had gone on vacation and left him behind.

Yes a paid sitter pops in twice a day for about half an hour but according to him that is simply not good enough. He says he is part of the family and feels unloved and confused by being ‘abandoned’

I thought you were never coming home

As a result when his owners get home they could expect something like this.

Destroyed kitchenCat drinking through straw

Cow on roof

Yes you do deserve a vacation!
No it is not always suitable to take your pets with you.
Yes being at home is normally less stressful to them than being dumped in kennels or a cattery.
But it can still be stressful.
So what is the answer?

One easy answer is to use our FREE service. Wherever you live in the world we will be happy to try to arrange for a reliable person to come and stay in your home, look after the home and your animals. Yes that is right it will not cost you anything as i said it is a free service.

Seeing life differently.

A different view

Those of you who’ve been following this blog will know that I have been waiting for an operation on my eye. I had it yesterday.

I am thrilled with the result but it is going to take some time to adjust.

All my life I have been shortsighted and have therefore had to wear glasses in order to do everything. Even though I have worn them for almost 60 years I have never liked wearing glasses. They cause problems in the rain and they are just a bit of a pain at times but I have got used to them.

Over the years my shortsightedness has got progressively worse until I could only see clearly for about 8 inches in front of my face. Anything beyond that I needed my glasses.

To make things slightly more difficult I started to develop cataracts in both eyes and have been waiting for them to mature and then be removed.

The operation I had yesterday was to remove the cataract from my left eye but the hospital now do things somewhat differently. They not only removed the cataract but they actually removed the entire lens from my eye and replaced it with an artificial lens adjusted to my prescription to give me perfect distance vision with that eye.

As result I can now see very clearly from the horizon until about 3 feet from my face. I don’t think I have ever seen as clearly. The operation itself was not at all traumatic and I am delighted with the result.

I still need to have my right eye done. I understand that the waiting list for this will be a few months as they have to wait one month after doing the first eye to check on its progress before booking the appointment for the second eye.

The result is that I can now see clearly for the first 8 inches from my face through my right eye after which everything becomes out of focus and I can see from about 3 feet away to the horizon through my left.

This leaves a gap from about 8 inches to 3 feet where I can’t see clearly with either eye.

That is a little awkward as I need vision in that particular area in order to work the computer, run Christian housesitters, do my duties as a church treasurer, preaching etc.

I’ve been experimenting today and find that the best solution, at the moment, is to put an eye patch over my repaired left eye and then put on my old glasses which enables my right eye to see for those tasks. Now all I need is a parrot on my shoulder and I will be a bona fides pirate.Pirate

Thank you for everyone who has sent messages of support and prayers. God has done a wonderful job, as he always does, and I am thrilled with the results of yesterday’s operation.

I would still appreciate your prayers for the next couple of months that the appointment for my second eye will come through quickly and that I will find the best way to do those jobs which require vision in the section where I am at present still having problems.

God bless you,

Ray.

I was frustrated but……

Posted on

I was feeling frustrated.

My vision is not as good as it should be because of cataracts and I am on the waiting list for cataract surgery at the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset. The wait has dragged on and on making life a little difficult at times as I depend on my vision for almost everything that I do from running Christian House Sitters through driving, preaching and even on to handling the finances as church treasurer.

Eventually I was contacted and told the operation would take place on the 12th of May. I was delighted but then got a call to say “sorry it has to be postponed” Grrrr

Then another call saying it was re booked for the 23rd of May. Phew relief.

A few days before the due date another phone call “sorry we have to cancel the appointment due to unforeseen circumstances but we will re book you asap

The frustration began.

Every morning I watched for the postman and waited for a phone call.

So far nothing.

Every day I moaned at God “Why did you let then cancel my appointment you know I need it?”

Today I read the local newspaper and saw the following article.

Cataract patients suffer complications after private firm’s operations at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton
9:00am Thursday 29th May 2014
A PRIVATE firm hired to perform routine eye surgery at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital had its contract terminated after dozens of patients suffered mystery complications. More than half the 62 patients who had cataracts removed earlier this month experienced blurred vision and swollen corneas – normally one in 400 have such side effects, according to Musgrove.
Patients, who were treated under local anaesthetic in a mobile unit beside the day surgery unit, have been recalled and given treatment to ease the problem, but some may need further surgery in the future……..

God knows what He is doing.Perfect Timing

His timing is perfect.
His delays are for our good.
I am reminded that I need to trust Him and stop my complaining.

God bless you,

Ray

An Easy, Fun Way to Save Your Life

Warning Signs

Warning Signs

Stress, Depression and Heart Disease are some of the leading killers of this century. Everyone is at risk and we bombarded with advice about diet, exercise, weight control etc. These are all important and I am not seeking to negate them but there is another factor that good solid scientific research has shown to also be vital to preventing theses killers striking.

A solution that is enjoyable, fun, and something to look forward to with eager anticipation and to look back on with fond and lasting memories.

In brief research shows that not taking a regular vacation will significantly increase your risk of death from a heart attack.  I will not go into all the details but will simply summarize a few studies and provide links so you can read them in full if you wish.

In a study of 13,000 middle-aged men at risk for heart disease, those who skipped vacations were found to be 30 percent more likely to suffer heart attacks than those who took at least one week off each year. Even missing one year’s vacation was associated with a higher risk of heart disease. Full report

A separate study, tapping information from the Framingham Heart Study, found vacation deprivation may be equally hazardous for women. Researchers looked at 20 years worth of questionnaires given to 749 women. Their finding: Women who took a vacation once every six years or less were almost eight times more likely to develop coronary heart disease or have a heart attack than those who took at least two vacations a year.  Full Report

A study conducted among 1,500 women in rural Wisconsin found that those who take vacations twice a year or more were less likely to become tense, depressed or tired than those who took vacations once every two years. In addition, the odds of marital satisfaction decreased as the frequency of vacations decreased. Full Report Depression

Finally a sample of 887 law firm lawyers in Canada found that participating in active and social leisure activities and taking a vacation are important in reducing lawyers’ depression Full Report

Americans are at greater risk than those living in most other countries. This is because most countries in Europe have a legal requirement to give staff an annual vacation of between 20 and 30 days (varies between countries. Australia and New Zealand mandate at least 20 days off. Canada only insists on 10 days a year and America has no legal minimum.

There is the mistaken idea that it would cost business too much but that is simply not correct. As an example Jancoa, a Cincinnati janitorial service firm, for example, decreased its employee turnover from 360 percent to 60 percent while simultaneously increasing its productivity with the addition of a week of vacation. Full Report

The Chicago office of Price Waterhouse Coopers, the worldwide accounting firm, once dedicated an entire issue of its in-house newsletter to the importance of taking a vacation, pointing out that vacations enable employees to return to work with a strong focus and energy. Full Article

So start making plans NOW. Your life may depend on it.

BUT I can’t afford it!

In the USA 34% of those asked said that they can’t afford to take their full vacation. Now that is really sad! We all know how important a vacation is for your mental and physical health. Cutting it down because of cost is not necessary.

We can help you!Free

How?

Register with Christian House Sitters and you can enjoy rent-free vacations all over the world.

We can also arrange for a Christian to look after your home and pets free of charge while you are away.

Why I am being given a free iPad

Next Wednesday (13th Nov) the British Government have promised to provide me with an iPad free of charge. iPad, I Paid

Yes it is true!

Now before you get too jealous may I point out that they seem to have a different way of spelling it to me. They insist on Eye Pad. How silly of them.

For many years I have had a pterygium (see below) in both eyes. The left has become worse and is obstructing my vision so the specialists have decided it needs to be removed under a general anaesthetic. This will take place at the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton on Wednesday.

It is not a major operation. Certainly nothing compared to what Marilyn has been through over the past few years but it is my vision so your prayers would be much appreciated.

After the operation I get my i (eye) pad.

If I am a little slow responding to email etc. after the surgery please be patient.

Likewise if you join Christian House Sitters on Wednesday or Thursday of next week there will be a slight delay in getting your membership processed.

Thanks

Eye Pad

PS For those who do not know what a pterygium is here is an extract from Guy’s Hospital website

A pterygium is a raised, triangular or wedge-shaped, benign growth of conjunctiva tissue. The conjunctiva is the mucus membrane that covers the front of your eye. It usually occurs on the side of your eye nearest your nose. A pterygium can grow over the cornea (the transparent dome at the front of your eyeball) in a triangular fashion. It may grow large enough to affect your vision (eyesight).

A pterygium usually develops if you have been living in a hot, dry climate. This may be a response to: • your eye’s long-term exposure to sunlight and • chronic eye irritation from the dry climate

As the pterygium develops it may alter the shape of the cornea, making it curve more. This causes astigmatism, which affects how your eye focuses. When the pterygium has grown towards the centre of your cornea it will affect your vision.

A Modern Miracle.

Expect MiraclesDo you believe in a miracle working God?

I do. I believe that God is able to do things that we humans can’t begin to understand. When He does I feel uplifted and encouraged. That happened again this week and I would like to share it with you.

This is an exciting post that will bless you but in order for you to understand it I will first need to give you a little background.

As regular readers will know Marilyn, my wife, and I run a ministry called Christian House Sitters that has been a blessing to people all over the world.

All income from this ministry goes to run a Christian Children’s Home called Home of Peace in rural Kenya where we accommodate, feed, clothe, educate and look after about 80 children who would otherwise be left to fend for themselves on the streets and many would no doubt die. The Children’s home is run by Marilyn from England and in Kenya by James a Community Elder who lives very near to the home.

Under them we have a local leadership team headed by Erick our Administrator and acting social worker. Marilyn is in contact with James or Erick many times every week and she makes certain that funds are used properly and the home is well run.

Next to Home of Peace they have build Peace Church which is run by Erick, James and others.

Twice a month either our Pastor or I ( we take turns) will phone the church on a Sunday morning and we will preach to them via their cell phone and a translator.

Also a further twice a month one of us will ring on a Saturday morning and teach a group of about 30 local rural Pastors who come for training.

This is always a blessing . Last Sunday the person preaching to Peace Church was our Pastor it was not me.

Here is a brief account of what happened. It is written by Erick who was present. Please forgive his English. I could have corrected it but wanted you to get the full impact of his words.

“We are praising God for the miracle which happened through phone teaching by Rev J on Sunday. Many received the word of God and there was healing what make us amezine is people can be total healed by God through words from phone.

Last Sunday we witness when three were healed.

A lady named Gladis who was so sick in all part of her body, she was feeling much pain but she healed & praising the Lord for what happened to her life.

Second was a man named Morice he has the problem on right hand that was broken, the bones came out the skin for many month, he cannot carry anything, but after Rev J pray for him his hand was healed and pain gone, he jump & clapping for the Lord.

Third was Elder James he have knee problem for many weeks, he can’t walk fast ,when Rev praying for him last Sunday he was total healed, he can run around and Ride the Bicycle to the market. He praise God.

God bless.

ERICK”

God is so good we underestimate His greatness all the time. These are simple people who believe what God says, take Him at His word and see things happen. Sadly I feel that at times in the Western World we over analyse and intellectualise God.God said it that settles it

I believe it was Moody who said “God said it, I believe it, that settles it” That is in some ways over simplistic but it certainly contains a lot of truth.

Praise
