Why are we are never satisfied?

Why are we are never satisfied?

Never Right

We always seem to want what others have and to undervalue what we have.Tanning

I remember as a teenager noticing that many white skinned people craved a dark sun tan while those with naturally dark skins were spending money on skin lightening treatments.

Ironing hairPeople with straight hair have it curled while those with naturally curly hair spend ages trying to iron it straight.

People in the city want to live out in the country while many in the country crave the convenience and comfort of city life. I could go on and on but I am sure that you get the point.

It is exactly the same as we think about our vacations. Right now most people in Europe and parts of the US would love to escape from the coldDog in snow with boots and snow into a place with glorious sunshine.

But at the same time many in the Southern hemisphere are longing for cooler weather and would be delighted to spend time frolicking in the snow.

It reminds me of the book of Ecclesiastes in the bible. Summed up in those dismal words in chapter 1 verse 2: “Meaningless! Meaningless!”  says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless!  Everything is meaningless”

Oh what a sad but accurate view of life.

In Ecclesiastes we find the solution in the final chapter where we are reminded that ultimately we will only find real meaning in life when we put God first!

However on a much lower level we can also use our differences to make this life more enjoyable. Here is an area where I have found Christian House Sitters a blessing.

If you are living in a cold place why not enjoy a rent-free vacation somewhere warm and at the same time you could (if you so choose) let someone from a warmer part of the world enjoy a rent-free vacation in your home. That will bless them, bless you and give you the security of knowing that you home and pets are being cared for.
Dog melting

Naturally the same applies the other way around. If you want to enjoy the snow and escape the blazing heat you can do that.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life why not have a rent-free vacation in the country and if you crave a taste of city life then that can also be arranged.

No Christian House Sitters can’t provide the meaning of life. Only God can do that but we can help you relax, travel the world, enjoy different countries and cultures and all rent-free. We can also help you save money by having someone look after your home and pets while you are away free of charge.

Everyone benefits.

House hunting and web site redesign.

Sorry that I have been neglecting this blog for the past few weeks. Life has been rather hectic. As I mentioned in a previous blog the house we presently rent has now been sold and we urgently need to find somewhere else to live. House HuntingSo for the past few weeks Marilyn and I have been rushing around looking at houses to rent but so far we have not found anything suitable.

Are we worried? No but we are concerned as we must move out of here before the new owners move in but we believe God has a place for us we just wish He would tell us where it is so we can get started.

Prayers would be appreciated

With the weather in the UK I thought of this as an option

ON ANOTHER TOPIC
Over this past weekend I was doing some work trying to make the Christian House Sitters website more attractive.

This was prompted because I received an email from someone saying that it was starting to look dated. He actually said it looks 6 years old and that in internet terms that is about the same as dog years. Ouch!

Anyway I have changed the colour scheme, redesigned the FAQ page, updated the Home Page, renamed Comments Received as Testimonials (his suggestion) and tweaked the meta tags to hopefully get us higher ranking in Google.Painting Computer

I am sure that there is still lots that could be done to make the site even better but as 100% of the income from this ministry goes to support a Children’s Home in Kenya who depend on us for food etc. I can’t justify spending money getting in a professional so I will just keep making what adjustments I can myself.

Have a look at the new design and send me your (hopefully) encouraging comments. You can see it at  www.christian-housesitters.com

Also please remember to tell your church, family and friends about our ministry.

It has blessed people all over the world who would otherwise have either not had a vacation or had to make do with something much less enjoyable.

God bless you

Open Letter to Church Leaders

This is an Open Letter to all church leaders.

Please pass it onIf you are not one of the leaders please pass it on to the appropriate person. Please also pass it on to anyone you know in other churches who may be willing to make this known to their church.

This is the time of year when members of your congregation are no doubt starting to plan their vacations. If any of your congregation are interested in having a Christian look after their home and animals while they are on vacation I am sure we can help find the right person.

This is a MINISTRY not a business. Our service will not cost them anything. It is free to house owners.

Home Owners who want to take a vacation and need someone to look after their home and or pets can register and then enjoy their time away knowing that their home and animals are well cared for by another Christian without having to pay house carers or pet carer fees. As I said this will not cost them anything as it is FREE to home owners.

Christians who need a break can also register as House Sitters and enjoy a rent-free vacation while house sitting in different countries around the world with no accommodation costs. With the present world financial problems this can provide a much-needed rent-free vacation.

As I mentioned  we are NOT a business but a Ministry. 100% of all income goes to support a Christian Children’s Home in Kenya. Full details are included on our website. CLICK HERE

WordPress are adding adverts to blogs. Seems they are not always shown but if there are adverts on this page please note they were not placed by me, not approved by me and do not imply my recommendation.

Patience Needed. But please hurry.

patience neededI do know about being patient.

I know about it but that does not mean that I find it easy. Oh no! I am by nature impatient. I do not enjoy waiting around for things.

Yes, I am aware that this is nothing to be proud of or to boast about. I remember the patience of Abraham, Joseph, Job and even Simeon in the New Testament. But once again knowing does not seem enough at times.

Does that mean I am lacking in faith? I hope not but in all honesty I guess if my faith was stronger I would not become impatient but the truth is that I do trust God. I do believe He is in control and I actually believe His timing is perfect but I still get impatient.

What has brought this about?

We are waiting to hear from a lawyer who is looking into how badly Marilyn was treated when she was in Worthing Hospital a few years ago. We were promised that the findings would be available no later than the 18th of August. As that date approached we were given a bunch of excuses and asked to wait another month. We agreed. As the next deadline approached we were told it would be the end of September. Again we agreed and guess what. Come the beginning of October we were still waiting. I contacted the lawyer who thanked me for our patience (if he only knew) and said we would hear within a week. So come Monday I contacted him again. He said he had everything ready and that he was posting it to us. Well it is now Thursday and nothing has arrived. I have emailed him and he is not even replying.

I know we will hear and I do believe God will bring a just result to this enquiry but my patience is wearing thin.Grow faster please

As you know we also run Christian House Sitters. Until August we were almost flooded with houses, sitters and enquiries. Great! But for the past month things have been deadly quiet. In all the years this ministry has existed I have never known it so quiet.

Oh I know it will soon buck up again and there will be at least the normal flow of new houses, new sitters, etc but at the moment my patience is again being tested.  So many people all over the world count on us to enable them to have a rent free vacation. But we are naturally dependent on others making their homes available while they are on their vacation. The children at the home we run in Kenya depend on this ministry for their food, clothing, accommodation, schooling and everything.

Please pray for us that the lawyers will do the right thing and do it soon. Pray also for Christian House Sitters. Finally please pray for me.

Thanks,

God bless you,

Ray

Role Models and Vacations

2 Pastors discuss vacations

I was sent the above a few days ago and it appealed to my rather odd sence of humour.

Sadly it contains more than a grain of truth. I have met many Christians who feel that they need to work 7 days a week and 365 days a year. They have the very best intentions. They want to serve God and do not want to waste time BUT I have to ask myself if, in the long run, they are actually very effective or indeed if they are really living  in God’s will.

God clearly told us that He rested on the 7th day. I have real difficulty in thinking that God was tired. He rested and by doing that showed that we too need to take a day each week to re-charge our batteries.

Psychological and medical research has clearly demonstrated that people who do not take a regular vacation are prone to more illnesses and are less efficient at work.

If you are interested here are links to just two such articles.

Relax! Vacations Are Good For Your

Health Take Back Vacation

One reason many people do not take a vacation is the cost. But remember Christian House Sitters can help make a dramatic reduction in the cost of your next vacation. We can help you find rent-free accommodation all over the world and we can arrange, if needed, for reliable Christians to look after your home and your pets while you are away again with no cost to you.

Shocked.

I was surprised this week.

It is not often that the behaviour of people causes me surprise having spent many years working both in Christian Ministry and as a Psychologist I thought I had moved beyond being shocked.

So, I hear you asking, what caused this shock?

It was the level of pride and selfishness shown by the minister of a large church. A man I previously knew only by his reputation as an international speaker.

This man, who will remain unnamed, wrote to Christian House Sitters saying he was interested in house sitting in ____ between ___ and ___ and asking if we have anything available.

I replied that at this moment we do not but I went on to explain that naturally the listing keeps changing as new houses are added and that as the date he wanted is many months away I suggested he prayerfully consider registering as a House Sitter so that he could be informed immediately any new houses are added.

He replied that he did not feel it necessary for him to register and asking me to just keep an eye on all new listings. Then if what he wants became available to reserve it for him, send him the details and he will register.

I replied that it would be unfair to our existing registered members. They joined with the promise that they would be informed about all listings. To reserve it for someone who is not a member and thus deprive the registered members would not be fair to them.

His reply was. Do you know who I am? I am God’s servant and I deserve to be treated as a special case!

I am afraid I replied saying that on further consideration we do not feel that he is the type of person we would welcome as a member. I pointed out that Jesus came as the servant king and no servant is greater than his master.

Sadly his response was an abusive email telling me that I am standing between God and His plans and I will be judged by God for stopping this great man of God from having the vacation he deserved.

All I can say is please join me in praying for God servants. I include myself in that group. Pray that we never forget that we are nothing and God is everything.

I Love Myself

I do not know who produced this picture but it was sent to me and it seems to fit the mind-set of that Pastor

Don’t forget that if you would like someone to look after your home and pets while you are away you can register free of charge as a House Owner. The service of the sitter will not cost you anything!

Also if you fancy a rent-free vacation please register as a Sitter. We have homes available all over the world. And the list keeps changing. Once you are registered we will keep you up to date on available houses and don’t worry we will not be reserving them for someone who has not registered. In fact we never reserve houses the home owner decides who they would like from those that apply.

Rescued by Locals

Lost Reading a mapThis story is allegedly true: Some attribute it to Fulton Sheen but as I originally heard it the person involved was Billy Graham. No matter the point remains the same.

Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon. Wanting to post a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was.  When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said, ‘If you’ll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven.’

The boy replied, ‘I don’t think I’ll be there… You don’t even know your way to the post office.’

Having done a lot of travelling I know how difficult it can be to end up somewhere where you don’t know anyone or anything about the area. Yes one can get travel guides but they don’t always seem to have the information I need. Things like where to find the post office. This is especially true when travelling in another country where you can’t speak the language

Over the past couple of years Marilyn and I have travelled in a different way. We have done House Sitting. Hardly a surprise as we run Christian House Sitters.

Some of the many blessings we have experienced are living in a home instead of an impersonal hotel room and also having contact with local people. The house owners always leave us with a list of local contacts. Usually people from their own church. As a result we arrive in a new place feeling that we already know real people who we can contact with  any questions or who can advise us about local facilities. A side effect is that we also often get invited to visit these people. We don’t always accept these invitations but when we do we make new friends and that enriches the experience of being in the new town.

Snow sceneTwo years ago we were house sitting up in the Italian Mountains when we were snowed in. Neither of us speak any Italian but all it took was a simple phone call to an English-speaking friend of the owner and we were able to find out how to get groceries and on one occasion what to do when the water pipes leading to the house froze. What could easily have been a difficult time was instead a time of real blessing. The locals rallied round and made sure we were kept supplied and warm until the weather improved.

If you have never tried house sitting why not give it a go? It is a wonderful way to travel all over the world, live rent-free and enjoy a vacation you could otherwise only dream of having.

Am I Crazy?

There are times when I wonder if we are crazy.Crazy

Officially I am retired but I am working hard every day, without any financial reward, running Christian House Sitters.

We have members all over the world  so we receive emails throughout the day and night because of the different time zones. I have a policy of never letting anyone wait more that 12 hours for a reply. Most get a reply far sooner. As a result I monitor the site for about 18 hours a day. Not constantly but checking on things.

I also spend a lot of time and energy promoting our ministry. As I said we do not make money from this ministry, rather than making me money costs us money.

Am I crazy? No I do not think I am I believe there are very good reasons to do what we are doing.

So why do we do it?

There are 2 reasons.

Christian House Sitters has blessed many Christians around the world who could not otherwise have afforded a vacation. We believe that in itself is a great ministry to the people of God.

But there is also a vital second reason.

There is a Children’s Home in Kenya run by a Christian team. These wonderful people have dedicated their lives to looking after the children. They do not get a salary just food and somewhere to sleep and we give them each a gift of about £10 per month.

Marilyn, my wife, is in regular contact with the home and guides them in every decision. She also keeps an eagle eye on how they use the money that is donated.

I have just been looking through their financial report for last month. All the staff donated back at least 80% of their personal (very small gift) to help buy food for the children.

In the local community people are very poor. But I found my heart deeply touched by the following entries:
Gift of a small fish
Gift of beans (Value about 50p)
Gift of a vegetable (Value about 35p)
Etc, etc.

This is sacrificial giving.

When I look at that my own small gift of time and money it seems insignificant. These people have so little yet gladly share what they have.

Please will you prayerfully consider helping us to support these hungry children.

The income from Christian House Sitters only provides about 25% of their minimum requirements. We have a few regular sponsors and also receive occasional gifts.

Somehow God stretches the money and the basic needs are covered. But every month is an adventure in faith.

You can help by sponsoring a child, by making an occassional gift, by telling your church, friends and contacts and naturally by praying for us.

We would like to do so much more. When our income is sufficient to cover the basics we will need to buy them more beds. At present the children sleep 2 to a bed. They need a kitchen as at present cooking is done on an open fire under a tree, they need additional dormitories, etc.

These are God’s children. Please help us to help them!
