The choice is yours.

People are looking for ways to save money on everything and that includes the cost of having a vacation.

In a report published 3 days ago in Out and About it was reported that  Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Camping and Caravanning Club recorded almost 20,000 campers on  site across its 109 UK sites. The article goes on to say  Figures from the Office of National Statistics indicate that last year 5.4 million camping and  caravanning trips were taken compared with just 4.9 million B&B stays. Results for 2011 are expected to show an even wider gap as the nation seeks to find cheaper ways to holiday. (http://bit.ly/nElssR)

Cooking on camp fire

I can really understand the appeal. We have enjoyed some delightful camping trips in the past.

But to be honest we have also endured some other camping trips huddled up in a tent with the wind howling, the rain pelting down and toilets located on the far side of a muddy field.

I now prefer the comfort of staying in a house with hot and cold running water, electricity, TV, comfortable beds and a real kitchen to prepare the food.

Below are a few pictures of houses we have recently had available for our members.

But with camping you can enjoy the great outdoors.

True but if that is what you want you can choose a housesit that is in the great outdoors. Like this one we had available.

But what about the cost?

Because we do it through Christian House Sitters it costs less that camping. In fact it is FREE.

Which would you prefer?

Paying to stay in a tent or living rent-free in a lovely house.

We have houses all over the world.

Enjoy a Laugh.

I enjoy a good laugh.

There are times when life is so serious and in my opinion having a laugh helps oil the wheels making the day a little more enjoyable.  It is a little like a very short, mini, vacation. So here are a couple of stories I read that I enjoyed. I hope you also enjoy them.

Unwelcome Attention

Getting away from their high-stress jobs, a couple spent weekends relaxing in their motor home.

When they found their peace and quiet disturbed by well-meaning but unwelcome visits from other campers, they devised a plan to assure themselves some privacy.

Now, when they set up camp, they place this sign on the door of their motor home:

“Insurance agents. Ask about our term-life package.”

A Scotsman on Holiday
A Scotsman visited London for his annual holiday and stayed at a large hotel. However, he didn’t feel that the locals were friendly.

At 5 o’clock every morning,” he told a friend, “they hammered on my bedroom door, one the walls, even on the floor and ceiling.

Heck, sometimes they hammered so loud I could hardly hear myself playing the bagpipes.”

And finally Bears

A couple were vacationing in a national park. The wife expressed her concern about camping because of bears and said she would feel more comfortable in a motel. The husband said that he’d like to camp and to calm her concerns, they’d talk to the park ranger to see what the likelihood of a bear encounter would be.

The ranger told them, “Well, we haven’t seen any grizzlies in this area so far this year, or black bears, for that matter.”

The wife shrieked, “There’s TWO types of bears out here? How can you tell the difference? Which one is more dangerous?”

The ranger replied, “Well, that’s easy, see, if the bear CHASES you up a tree and it comes up after you, it’s a black bear. If it SHAKES the tree until you fall out, it’s a grizzly.”

The motel room was quite nice.

I hope that these have cheered up your day a little and will help you to keep going until you can enjoy a real holiday.

When that time arrives please remember that Christian House Sitters are here to help you.

We can help by getting someone suitable to look after your home and pets while you are away. This is a free service.
