We are on vacation in Malta

My wife and I enjoying a much needed vacation on the beautiful island of Malta.

We left a cold and wintery England and arrived in what the locals tell us is the coldest month of the year but as you can see from the pictures it is beautiful warm weather.

How could we afford this?

Are we wealthy?

Not at all.

We live on a very tight budget and depend on our state pension for everything. There is no way we could afford this sort of vacation.

But God.

God provided and we thank Him for his blessings.

It is almost 2023!

I do not know who originally said failing to plan is planning to fail as it seems to be attributed to so many different people

In 1849, French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose “ – the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Things are changing!

As an example, today the UK welcomed in our 3^rd Prime Minister this year. Politically we have seen constant change all over the world

But even in these changing and often difficult times some things remain the same. As humans we still get tired, stressed and ill.

As most of you will know our charity www.TLC-Childrenstrust.org  runs a Kenyan Government Registered Children’s Home and food costs alone have increased by well over £1,000 per month during this year so we do understand financial pressure

We still long for some time away from the treadmill of daily life.

But for most of us, we feel it is asking too much, as money simply does not go as far as it did

Light at the end of the tunnel

Email from a Cat

I posted this some time ago but felt it was worth a repeat post for new readers

I love animals, always have done so when I received an email that claimed to have been written by a cat I was naturally fascinated.

The email was sent to Christian House Sitters as a thank you from a cat whose ‘owners’ had been away on vacation.

Here is what the cat wrote:

Hi,

My name is Calypso and I wanted to say a big thank you to Christian House Sitters for the way that you have improved my life.

I have staff (they mistakenly think that they own me but actually they just work for me) and from time to time they have a habit of deserting me. They say that they are going on their annual vacation and I see them excitedly packing their suitcases and getting ready. They look really happy but I have learned that it is bad news. It means I am going to be dumped at the cattery for 2 weeks. Now don’t get me wrong it is a very good cattery and they seem to try their very best but I ask you, do I look like someone who should be locked away in prison?

I have tried to explain this to my staff. I have even tried pulling stuff out the suitcase when they are packing but to no avail.

Once I decided to climb into the  case and join them on their vacation in order to find out what it is all about but I was discovered and ended up in the cattery again. But this year it all changed! I saw them packing and I felt really depressed but instead of taking me to prison they had arranged for substitute staff to take their place. They called then House Sitters. They were great. Gave me the attention I deserve, fed me my normal food, in the normal place and at the normal time and I had a great time.

Vacation is no longer a word that brings dread to my heart. Thanks for sending the House Sitters. I am telling all the other cats in the street to share the good news with their staff.

How does your country rate?

Marilyn and I are exhausted. We are thankful that we will be going on a short vacation at the end of this week.

This led me to thinking about the importance of taking time out.

So I looked at how countries around the world care for their workers.

I got my information from  Wikipedia   They list over 2000 countries annual leave details. I made very interesting reading.

Here is a very short extract showing the countries I believe most of our readers will live in or be interested in. For the full list visit the link above to the article.

With only one exception (more about that later) every country listed has a legal requirement to give workers paid leave every year plus paid leave on public holidays (although sometimes this is taken as extra work and an increased pay instead of a day off.

The one exception is not some backward 3^rd world country as one may have expected. Even 3^rd world countries have a legal requirement to give staff paid leave.

No, the only exception is the United States of America where there is no legal requirement to give staff any time off.

An extra unexpected blessing

Here is a note I received from one of our members who tells how her very first house sit provided a blessing that is still going on 3 years later

Hi!

Thought Id write as we have just said goodbye to a family we house sat for 3 years ago!

They had popped in for a cup of tea & to collect their daughter who had been staying!

Since we stayed at their home our daughters have become firm friends over social media! (She left a little note in her room).!

They have  been back & forth to stay with each other a few times, we have shared days out & our daughter was even invited to holiday abroad with the family!

What a delight has come from our 10 day house sit!
