Shocked.

I was surprised this week.

It is not often that the behaviour of people causes me surprise having spent many years working both in Christian Ministry and as a Psychologist I thought I had moved beyond being shocked.

So, I hear you asking, what caused this shock?

It was the level of pride and selfishness shown by the minister of a large church. A man I previously knew only by his reputation as an international speaker.

This man, who will remain unnamed, wrote to Christian House Sitters saying he was interested in house sitting in ____ between ___ and ___ and asking if we have anything available.

I replied that at this moment we do not but I went on to explain that naturally the listing keeps changing as new houses are added and that as the date he wanted is many months away I suggested he prayerfully consider registering as a House Sitter so that he could be informed immediately any new houses are added.

He replied that he did not feel it necessary for him to register and asking me to just keep an eye on all new listings. Then if what he wants became available to reserve it for him, send him the details and he will register.

I replied that it would be unfair to our existing registered members. They joined with the promise that they would be informed about all listings. To reserve it for someone who is not a member and thus deprive the registered members would not be fair to them.

His reply was. Do you know who I am? I am God’s servant and I deserve to be treated as a special case!

I am afraid I replied saying that on further consideration we do not feel that he is the type of person we would welcome as a member. I pointed out that Jesus came as the servant king and no servant is greater than his master.

Sadly his response was an abusive email telling me that I am standing between God and His plans and I will be judged by God for stopping this great man of God from having the vacation he deserved.

All I can say is please join me in praying for God servants. I include myself in that group. Pray that we never forget that we are nothing and God is everything.

I Love Myself

I do not know who produced this picture but it was sent to me and it seems to fit the mind-set of that Pastor

Don’t forget that if you would like someone to look after your home and pets while you are away you can register free of charge as a House Owner. The service of the sitter will not cost you anything!

Also if you fancy a rent-free vacation please register as a Sitter. We have homes available all over the world. And the list keeps changing. Once you are registered we will keep you up to date on available houses and don’t worry we will not be reserving them for someone who has not registered. In fact we never reserve houses the home owner decides who they would like from those that apply.

About housesitters

ABOUT Christian House Sitters Christian House Sitters is a Worldwide ministry that started in order to provide holidays for Christians and sitters for owners who needed a reliable Christian to look after their home, pets and garden. House owners do not pay anything to have their property listed. House sitters are only charged £25 per year and in return for this some enjoy numerous holidays each year. All fees from membership go to sponsor food for children at the Home of Peace Children’s Home in Kenya. This only supplies about a quarter of what is needed to feed the children so we urgently need sponsors. All funds go via our Registered Charity TLC Children’s Trust Charity Number 1156786 website http://www.tlc-childrenstrust.org N.B. Joining Christian House Sitters does NOT commit you to sponsoring a child or giving any support beyond your membership fee to these children. Although naturally if you want to support that would be greatly appreciated. We have some regular sponsors and other people who give an occasional gift. All are greatly appreciated. 2. Hi Ray…..I’m so sorry to hear your story of the proud pastor I agree with your comments 100% I would have said exactly the same. At this very moment my husband and I are on a house sit thanks to christian housesitters on the isle of skye and having a wonderful wonderful time. What a beautidul place and what a priviledge to be looking after another home whilst being blessed. Keep up all your good work. Angie and John Clifford

  3. Maybe this guy has overlooked something. Perhaps God IS treating him as a special case. Whereas God would never normally want to deny His children the blessing of a holiday, perhaps the Lord sees that this particular guy is in need of a special lesson in learning some humility. Just a thought.
    Well done, Ray!

  4. Dear Ray,
I am absolutely appalled at this rude and uncultured so-called man of God. What an insult to our Lord and the church in general. I am sorry that you were on the receiving end of his insults and unwarranted ballooned ego. Maybe he should go on a balloon vacation to match his ballooned ego.
On the other hand your response to him show you as a gentleman and a true servant of the Lord.
    With best wishes and blessings,
    Arthur.

  5. I completely understand your response to this “self proclaimed servant of the Lord”. I often see situations similar to these, and it is with deep sadness. I know those in the ministry are tempted and tried (probably) more often than a lay person~~but “too whom much is given, much is expected”. There is an urgency to pray for those in positions within the church…thank you for sharing.
Praying for them in the name of Jesus

  6. Let’s pray that this self-appointed General, who is supposed to be a humble foot soldier, sees the error of his ways before the Lord takes steps to correct the situation ! Absolutely the correct response on your part Ray.
