Broke Brits can’t afford break
Nearly 18 million Britons will stay at home over the summer months as the effects of the recession and soaring inflation force families to prioritise their finances over a holiday.
A poll for ING Direct found that 39% of respondents said they planned to forfeit their annual getaway this year, some 2.7 million more than went without a vacation in 2008, the summer following the credit crunch.
Simon Calder, the Travel expert we see on our TV screens most weeks is quoted as saying:.“Not being able to afford a holiday is an awful position to be in. It’s a really tough time economically at the moment and there is always going to be a certain number of people who can’t take holidays. In the past two years there has been a fall in the number of people taking holidays and short breaks …………”
How very sad! And I am certain this problem applies to people in other countries as much. We hear from folk in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa etc all making the same point. They need a holiday. They want a hoilday but they simply can’t afford the cost.
May I remind you that we can help. Through Christian House Sitters you can enjoy rent-free holidays all over the world and we can also arrange for someone reliable to look after your home and pets while you are away free of charge if that will help you.
